University outreach session a success

A lunchtime networking session with local undergraduates has proved to be a big hit. Two academics and ten Maths / Finance, and PhD students from the University of Wollongong (UOW), recently visited the trading floor of our Austinmer office. The students were selected as being amongst the top performers of their cohort and invited to witness first-hand  ‘live’ trading, giving them a taste of day-to-day life in a trading firm. 

The students were encouraged to speak to quants and traders – some of whom are themselves UOW alumni –  about their experiences and asked some searching questions over lunch. We received some fantastic feedback and the students left enthused, having gained some insight into what could be a future career choice. We felt as inspired as our guests and this type of outreach event is something we are looking to host more of in the future, possibly even extending it to primary and high school students.
